Hofer Elementary School Policies & Procedures
Attendance
It is the parents' responsibility to contact the Hofer office at 815-577-6758 when your child will be absent from school. If you want homework sent home or left in the office, please let us know when you call in the student's absence. Our policy states that students who have not been called in by an adult will have an unexcused absence on their record.
It is very important that students arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am. The bell will ring at 8:25 am, and students have 10 minutes to be in their seats and ready for class. We need your help in making sure that your child arrives on time. Please contact the office if there is an emergency that is unavoidable.
Can I Pick Up My Child Early?
All students who leave the school early or are picked up from school are required to be signed out in the office by an adult. Please be prepared to show your photo ID. Unless it is an emergency, we must have a note from the parent at the start of the school day. If your child is to be picked up at the end of the school day, he/she can be signed out at the front east doors. If your child is to be picked up early, he/she will need to be signed out in the office.
Physicals/Immunizations
Parents of Pre-School, Kindergarten, and New Students, please remember we need proof of immunizations and a recent physical on file before the first day of school. Students will be excluded from school without these. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for additional information.

Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures
Our Hofer Staff is intentionally positioned inside and outside of the school to guide our students to their path, car and/or bus. Please follow the direction of our traffic controllers, crossing guards, and teachers to support the safest and swiftest entrance and exit.
Bus Riders
Bus riders are dropped off and picked up on the west side of the school (by the playground) for all grades pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.
The west entrance to Hofer will be used for buses only. This lane is Troy Hofer’s bus lane and students will be escorted through the west side of the school building to their assigned bus each school day. No cars are allowed in the bus lane.
Car Riders
All car riders are dropped off and picked up in the front of the school for all grades pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.
Gates/colored cones will be used/installed to prevent and direct the flow of traffic into the parking lots and driveways in the front of the building. The east entrance to Hofer will be used for vehicles to drop-off and pick-up all other students. Vehicles are to proceed north down the driveway, loop around the island and proceed back towards the main entrance to line-up for drop-off and pick-up. Students should exit and enter vehicles on the passenger side for safety purposes.
All drivers are to remain inside their vehicle and are not allowed to park their vehicle in line. In the event that they need to park their vehicle, they may use Vertin Boulevard, or wait until such time as they may park in the spaces on the south end of the main parking lot. Vehicles will exit the parking lot on the west side of the lot onto Vertin Boulevard.
Crossing Guards, as well as Hofer Staff, will be strategically placed to monitor the flow of traffic and to keep adults moving in an orderly fashion. Cars will be directed to pull completely forward as they drop off students in the Car Drop off Zone.
Walkers
All walkers will be dismissed through door 1. Should your walking student need to make their way home via the back sidewalk, they will proceed around the back of the building using the sidewalk that winds around the west side of the building past the playground. Please ensure that if your child is a walker that will be meeting you in your car, that this is communicated with your child’s teacher and the front office staff.
